Now there is The Happy Hooker Dove Decoy, The only one that will set on a limb, line, fence line, corn stalk, on a pole, on Dove Tree (a new Ure-a-Duck Decoy Product Fall of 2004 ), or even on your finger. This universal Decoy has revolutionized the Dove hunting market. You're missing whole experience of Dove hunting over decoys if you don't have a Happy Hooker Dove Decoy.

Ure-a-Duck Decoy Company thought they would help out and invent some products that would make a difference. The first was to make a better motion decoy, hence the 3D Flapper Dove was created. Next they wanted to create the best still motion decoy a dove hunter could use. They wanted one that was universal, it would need to sit on a pole, bush, cornstalk, limb, line, and fence and even on its own Dove Tree. So the Happy Hooker Dove Decoy was invented. Ure-a-Duck took several hours of sculpting to create the most atomically correct dove decoy they could. They put him in a resting position with a left turn, another in a right turn, another with a dove looking over his shoulder and one looking straight. They had molds made of each style and started the manufacturing of the best dove decoy in the world. When I reflected back on the decoys my Father and I hunted over I wanted to have one that worked as well or better. The Happy Hooker Dove is the first I've seen to compete. It is the only Dove Decoy that you can be raised up to a limb with fishing line and with a slight tug will roll over and hook the limb and sit on it as a real dove would. This Decoy is made with a plastic outside shell with wire support imbedded in a solid urethane foam core. The decoy is extremely strong and light. It is somewhat labor intensive to build, so in return makes it's more expensive than the normal plastic Dove decoys. The universal uses make it well worth the price.
Note: Check your local laws on the use of power lines for decoy placement. This method of hunting could result in fatal electrical shocks.
Hunting over the Happy Hooker Dove decoy is the most fun a Dove hunter can have. Try to place your decoy on limb or line where you can find some blind cover with in shooting distance of the decoy. We have found great success with the birds on private farm that has its own power line coming across the field. ( Be sure to check your local laws on use of power lines .) We place up to 15 decoys on the line at a time. In groups of 3-5 separating the groups by 20 to 30 feet to spread out the decoys spread. We have seen Doves actually land and begin preening as if they have landed with live birds. If you even want to add more attraction pull a 3D Flapper Dove up in the same manner you place the Happy Hooker, stopping shy of the line by a couple of feet. So the Flapper looks like it is land with the resting birds. This method works extremely well on limbs in trees also.
We have found that using the decoys on the ground next to a watering are or sand area is a great way to attract Doves as well. We set a few on a stake or pole a couple feet off the ground and place the other leaning forward on the ground as if watering or graveling. It also adds more to the spread by Putting a 3D Flapper Dove on a pole a couple of inches off the ground make motion at the watering hole or graveling area.
We also have a new Product for those that hunt open fields of short vegetation. This product is the Ure-a-Duck DOVE TREE. This is a urethane foam and conduit pole that looks like a tree trunk and has limbs that you slide into holes. These limbs are designed to hold the Happy Hooker Dove Decoys by placing them on the limbs as if resting. This DOVE TREE is also designed for a Flapper Decoy to be place in the top of the TREE for added motion. Doves have a tendency to perch on the highest element in a field. So Use this method when hunting large open areas. You may think it strange but a Goose Layout blind is the perfect blind for this style of hunting. We at Ure-a-Duck Decoys use Beaver Tail Blind (www.fisherbeavertail.com). We have found them to be the easiest and most comfortable blind in a dove or Goose field.
Try some these methods for hunting
and you will have a much more productive and entertaining
hunt. For more information on Dove Hunting read the
